SNOWMOBILE TRAIL PASSES
All snowmobiles operating on a Wisconsin snowmobile trail or corridor (except antique sleds with a model year of 35 years or more) must display a valid snowmobile trail pass whether registered in Wisconsin or another state. It is seperate from snowmobile registration.
Trail Pass fees are dependent upon if the snowmobile is registered in Wisconsin or another state. Customers need their Wisconsin registration number for a Wisconsin Trail Pass, or the make and model for a nonresident snowmobile trail pass.

Q: Can a person get a snowmobile trail
pass for a new sled that does not yet have a registration number
assigned?
A: Not at an
agent location. In order to purchase a trail pass for a snowmobile, the
machine must be registered with a registration number assigned. Customers have the option to go online at gowild.wi.gov
to register their sled and receive a registration number and trail pass
immediately. Alternative: For new sleds purchased from a dealer,
the dealer can add a trail pass to their paper registration
application. The customer may then carry that application as
a temporary operating receipt which covers both the registrations and the
trail pass requirement.
